I truly believe that cake is art. Everything from the colours you use, the methods, the designs, your enjoyment… is art. And art should be accessible!

The aim with my first book was to provide a practical and arty guide to my signature style, that is perfect for both beginners and established cake artists. I sought to demystify the craft and thus embolden the reader, so you can develop your skills and confidence. Too often we’re scared to try new things, or just feel intimidated, but this book will arm you with the skills, techniques, and ethos that you need to forge your own path into the colourful world of cake artistry!

The book features hundreds of detailed step-by-step pictures to guide you through creating beautiful sugar flowers for celebration and wedding cakes, delivered under the following chapters: • Basic skills and equipment • Colour for cake design • Roses • Peonies • Filler Flowers • Leaves • Buds and Berries •

The book also includes three gorgeous cake projects, complete with instructions and guidance for colours, dusting and the all important step-by-step pictures for arranging the flowers on your cakes.

I still love this book, and hope you will love it and find it useful as much as I do!

I was one of the first to buy Natalies fabulous book Immaculate Confections. I have been trying for years and years to master the art of making roses, at least 10 years. I had watched Natalie on Sugar and Crumbs facebook live making her beautiful roses. I decided to take the plunge and ordered the Rapid Rose set. Then Natalies book. When I decided to give it a go. I couldn’t believe how easy it was, at last I had made a very good rose. When the book arrived I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I have books galore on my bookshelf but this one was so different. It explains the use of colours in a way that you can understand. It is pure heaven to read. It has helped me in so many ways. Everyone who comes into my kitchen ask when I am going to stop making roses. Thank you Natalie.

Natalie Porter’s Immaculate Confections – Sugar Flowers: Book One

I fell in love with the art of making Sugar Art just over a year ago, and I quickly learnt that Natalie Porter would be my favourite Cake and Sugar artist of all the myriads of experts out there. I have longed for this book ever since I heard that Natalie was producing one ! I always knew it would be beautiful but it has exceeded my expectations! It is absolutely stunning and each gorgeous item is fully explained in step by step instructions in a way I have not seen in any other of the books I have bought on the subject and which gives the gift of confidence to achieve them yourself. My only regret is that this book was not available when I first set out on this hobby- it would have saved me a great deal of frustration, over-buying of materials, wasted effort and to be really frank, some expensive courses!
Natalie covers absolutely everything, from the necessary tools, differentiation of pastes, how to wire things easily (no need for that fiddly veining board!), how to make her glorious signature roses and peonies, filler flowers and buds and how to dust to get the loveliest effects on your work. Anyone who knows Natalie’s work will know that her artistic eye and understanding of colour is another signature skill and she shares this knowledge in the book, so that the book is for the beginner and the accomplished alike.
Full of encouragement and inspiration, every page of this book is a delight for the eye and holds the key to the mastery of new skill. I utterly adore this book and the only other books I will buy on this subject will be Natalie Porter’s Sugar Flowers: Books Two, Three and Four……..
I once went on a course tutored by Natalie and quickly and joyfully learned more in one day than I had on several other courses I had attended put together. This book will have the same effect.

Well I was given this book as a birthday present from my better half. I resisted not opening until today. I have a number of books and this one is for everyone beginner to advanced. I had already purchased the cutters previously the book is for reference. The colour section is fabulous explained and I will use. The photographs are fantastic, detail for the protectionist. A book any cake maker who likes making flowers this is a book for you.

I’ve stalked Natalie for years and was thrilled when her book came out, to be a companion to her Rapid Rose Kit. She has an amazing eye for detail, renowned for her realistic colour palettes and dusting and her work is in harmony with nature in the business.

Flowers scared and shiver, but this is so brilliantly written and a beginner is put at ease.

The book goes through all the stages and takes about colours and their relationship on the colour wheel. Detailed specifics on every tool and paste, through to dust and powders. using the book alone or with her Rapid rose /Peonie system even a petrified beginner can turn out a stunning flower. Every page is a sensory delight and her enthusiasm and passion are infectious. Natalie conveys an easy to follow and amazing advice & instructions, she’s also always there and generous with her time to give advice. This book I pick up and read and follow, we all have books we have bought when starting cake decorating, but unlike most this is a book I go to every time and rarely gathers dust.

looking forward to the next book
